Blue Ridge Mountains - facts for kidsBlue Ridge Mountains These mountains lie in the southeastern United States. They extend for about 650 miles in the southwestern part of the Appalachian mountain range. From around Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the Blue Ridge Mountains pass through parts of Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and northern Georgia. The Blue Ridge range contains the Black Mountains, the Great Smoky Mountains and the Unaka Mountains. The highest peaks rise to more than 6,000 feet above sea level. The Blue Ridge Mountains vary from 10 to 15 miles wide in Virginia to about 75 miles wide in North Carolina.
