Confucius quotes and meanings

Confucius was a Chinese philosopher who lived five hundred years before the birth of Christ. Confucianism was for hundreds of years a vital religion and Confucius was worshiped as a god. Confucianism also developed into a practical philosophy. Confucius meanings and quotes became one of bases of a modern civilization

When Confucius was fifteen years old he decided to become a scholar. He mastered the teachings of the sages, or wise men of China, and from these developed his own philosophy. When he was twenty-one, students started coming to him. The basis of his teaching was the Golden Rule: Do not do unto others as you would not have others do unto you.

After he had taught for thirty years, a powerful Duke appointed him governor of a town. Here he put his teachings about good government into practice. The town prospered and its people revered Confucius almost as a god. But neighboring leaders grew jealous, and he was forced to resign.

From this time until his death, Confucius tried to find another ruler who would listen to him. But most rulers of his time did not understand his ideas.

When he died, Confucius had only a few followers, but these men recorded his teachings and spread them. Today there are about 300 million Confucianists.

Confucius lived about 2,500 years ago but Confucius meanings live on in the lives of some 300 million people.
