Davy Crockett, facts about CrockettCrockett, Davy (1786-1836), was a famous American frontiersman, an expert shot and a politician. His bravery and simple humor made him an almost legendary figure.

Crockett was one of the most famous frontiersmen During the Texas Revolution (1835-6), when the Texans were fighting for independence from Mexico, Crockett became a national hero. A small group of American soldiers was trapped in the Alamo, an old Spanish fortress that now stands in the center of San Antonio, Texas. The Americans were greatly outnumbered by a Mexican army under General Santa Anna. Crockett joined the Americans and died on March 6, 1836 in fierce hand-to-hand fighting. In 1813-1814, Crockett became known as an expert marksman when fighting against the Creek Indians. His career in politics began in Tennessee when he was elected a justice of the peace in 1821. He was chosen for Congress in 1827. He was re-elected three times but was defeated in 1835. He then moved to Texas. Crockett was born in Tennessee. He married twice.
