Information about oracle

This was a place where the ancient Greeks came to consult their gods about the future. There were a number of these places, each one believed to be sacred to a different god or goddess. If a worshipper visited the oracle at Delphi, for example, he would ask the priest to discover from the god Apollo either what he could expect to happen, or what he should do next.

The priest would conduct a ceremony which involved going into a kind of trance. After some time, he would announce the god's advice. This was usually worded in a mysterious fashion, and the worshipper had to think carefully in order to figure out its meaning.

The oracle at the temple of Apollo, an ancient Greek god, stood at Delphi. People went there to get advice on such matters as war and peace or personal problems
