Mosaic

Mosaic is a form of decoration built up from small pieces of colored glass, stone, china, or other material. The pieces are set in cement. Grout, another kind of cement, is used to fill the cracks between them. Mosaic is used mostly on floors, walls, and table tops. It can easily be cleaned by washing, and is extremely hard wearing. Many mosaic floors made by Greeks and Romans nearly 2,000 years ago still exist. Mosaic is laid either in one color or in a combination of colors forming a pattern. Many fine mosaics are laid in the form of pictures.
