Nepal, facts on Nepal
Nepal, officially called - the Federal Democratic Republic of
Nepal. This central Asian kingdom lies north of India and south of
Tibet. It covers an area of 54,362 square miles and is a little
larger than Arkansas.

The country's 29,331,000 people are mostly farmers of Mongolian,
Indian or Gurkha (mixed) descent. Most of the people live in the
fertile Nepal valley, in the central region. The main crops are
rice, wheat and fruit. Only about one-tenth of the people live in
cities and towns, where handicrafts are the main industries. The
capital is Katmandu. The Himalayan Mountains lie in northern Nepal. Mt Everest, the
world's highest peak, is in Nepal. The country's climate ranges from
mild conditions in the south to the bitter cold of the north.
